Description
The project aims to plant approximately 40,000 hectares of Acacia mangium in degraded grasslands within a two-area concession in the Pool district, Republic of Congo (Brazzaville). Additionally, it seeks to reforest 4,000 hectares of native forest, contributing to the restoration of the original forest cover remnants in the area. Furthermore, the project includes the integration of Agroforestry systems (AFS), which have the potential to incorporate various elements, including fruit trees, transforming these areas into versatile orchards. Moreover, the initiative plans to implement agriculture intensification programs, such as high-yield Cassava, to enhance food security access and alleviate the pressure of shifting agriculture on the landscape. To address energy needs, the project will introduce energy plantations and provide technical and material support for establishing plantations of rapidly growing species like Eucalyptus or Acacia sp. This approach aims to improve access to fuelwood and reduce pressure on this resource across the landscape. Simultaneously, the project strives to enhance the livelihoods of local communities by creating job opportunities and offering technical and material support for small-scale business activities, such as apiculture and mushroom cultivation, in collaboration with stakeholders.
